FAQ
What are the differences between StudioVisit and StudioVisitPro?
StudioVisitPro:
- Creates multiple portfolios with as many photos as needed, limited only by available memory.
- Supports the iPad and the high-resolution (Retina) iPhones 3GS, 4 and 4S.
- Can export a portfolio by email in PDF format.
- Includes six possible transitions between photos.
- Runs faster.
How many portfolios and photos can StudioVisitPro display?
The number of portfolios, and the number of photos in total, is limited only by the available memory in your device. The amount of free memory is shown in iTunes when your device is connected and you have selected it in the Devices menu at left.
Can I adjust the size of photos in a portfolio?
Yes. In Settings, you can choose to import photos at either their original size or the size of your device (which is usually smaller). Choosing Device size not only saves memory on your device, it also minimizes the size of PDF copies of a portfolio you email to others.
What specific devices does StudioVisitPro support? What iOS is required?
StudioVisit supports any iOS device with iOS 4.1 and above: iPhone (standard and Retina), iPad, and iPod Touch. StudioVisitPro is not compatible with the iPhone 3.
Can photos in StudioVisitPro be expanded (zoomed) to reveal detail?
Yes, using the standard two-finger pinch gesture, photos being viewed can be expanded and scrolled to show detail. Expanding works best if the photo has been imported at its original size, since this choice usually provides higher resolution and more detail.
How much information can the photo caption display?
The caption is limited to three lines of text, which is usually enough for a title, dimensions and media, copyright and other data such as inventory number.

The images in this guide are all taken from an iPhone. The iPad screens are so similar there is no need to show them here.

Working With A Portfolio
When you touch a portfolio button in the main menu, a menu of actions appears as shown above. The name of the portfolio you are working with appears at top, and the Back button returns to the menu of portfolios.
The buttons on this page lead to actions for viewing, editing and sharing the portfolio:
The buttons on this page lead to actions for viewing, editing and sharing the portfolio:
- Show Portfolio
- Add Photos to Portfolio
- Edit, Arrange Portfolio Photos
- Email Portfolio PDF
- Rename Portfolio
- Delete Portfolio
- Enter Portfolio Settings
Show Portfolio
Touch the Back button at top to return to the list of actions. Swipe left or right with a finger to move to another photo, or use the arrow buttons at bottom. Touch the Play button to begin an automatic slide show. (Choose slide delay and transition in Settings.) The slide show loops continuously from the end to the beginning; stepwise movement stops at the ends of the show.
Add Photos To Portfolio
- Touch From Albums to add a photo from your albums, library or camera roll.
- Touch From Camera (dimmed if your device does not have a camera) to add a photo taken on the spot.
- The photo appears here. If not satisfied, choose another photo with steps 1 or 2. (Photos will usually appear larger when viewed later.)
- Enter here a caption of up to three lines. Touch and hold to use select, cut, copy and paste as in other apps.
- Touch Save to add the photo and caption to the portfolio. Continue to add more photos as you wish.
Edit, Arrange Portfolio Photos
- Touch Move Up or Move Down to move the photo forward or back in the show.
- Touch Edit Photo, Caption to change the photo, edit the caption, or both. The edit photo screen looks like the one used to add photos, with all the same buttons.
- Touch Delete Photo to delete the photo and caption. You will be asked to confirm; the action cannot be undone.
- Touch Cancel to close the editing menu without making any changes.
Email Portfolio PDF
Note that the size of the PDF is displayed. With many cameras, the size of the photo, and so the portfolio, can be large. A PDF with large photos, or many photos, can be too large for some recipients to receive. If you plan to send PDFs, choose a size for photos that's smaller than the original size (see Enter Portfolio Settings).
Rename Portfolio, Delete Portfolio
Touch Rename Portfolio to enter a new name for the portfolio. Touch Delete Portfolio to delete the portfolio entirely. You will be asked to confirm; this action cannot be undone.
Enter Portfolio Settings
- Touch Slide Delay to set the amount of time each photo is shown in an automatic show. This setting is effective the next time the portfolio is shown, and can be changed in the middle of showing a portfolio.
- Touch Slide Transition to choose how one photo changes into the next. Available transitions are Push, Scroll, Reveal, Dissolve, Curl and Flip. Experiment is the best way to find out what each does. Like Slide Delay, this setting is effective the next time the portfolio is shown.
- Touch Photo Size to choose the size of photos added to the portfolio from albums, library, camera roll or camera. This setting affects only future photo additions; it is not retroactive. Many photos have original sizes much larger than the device can display. Large photos take up more of your device's memory and increase the size of portfolio PDFs. However, original size photos allow pinching to expand and explore detail. Two photos sizes are available: Original and Device. Device size is large enough to just fill your device screen.
